Ningaloo Station - 2nd week
Our 2nd week at Ningaloo Station was very relaxing, mostly due to the constant wind, which prevented us going out in our boat most of the time. The days were sunny, but windy.
Here you can see the sand that tried to bury our mat! Also on the BBQ table, and if you look hard enough you'll see it in my hair!
This is the view out of the caravan's window, not bad!
The sunsets are still amazing
And keep getting better
We get water from a well, which is up over a couple of large sand dunes. Here Jayne is pumping it from the well into 20 litre containers
She's glad that I'm taking her photo, as she's waving. Nope, its for the flies!
Look closely, our van is the one right on the sand.
Here I am burying the toilet waste, well someone has to do it!
We had a great day out when we drove to Coral Bay on Monday to meet up with our friends from Perth, Roy and Marg. It's a 2 hour drive each way from our camp, including re-inflating the tyres once you get to the bitumen, and then letting them down again once we get back onto the station property. We have a great time with them and definitely worth the trip. Jayne drove back to our camp, and minutes out of Coral Bay and in broad daylight, a kangaroo jumped in front of the car and she creamed him.
On Thursday Roy and Marg came to to visit us at Ningaloo Station. It was a beautiful day with scones, jam and cream for morning tea, and chicken rolls for lunch. We had two lovely days with these dear friends of ours.
We took them with us to collect water from the wells, which involved driving over two really big sand dunes. I'm constantly amazed that the Cruiser can just drive up sand dunes, like the dunes that used to be at Kurnell.
Here we are trying to prime our water pump, we didn't do it correctly but Roy was in his element crawling around in the sand with his head down the well.

We had to huddle under our awning due to the westerly sun

Our last day in paradise was Friday, and as the wind had dropped we managed to get out in our boat for a spot of fishing.
This fellow was so cute, we had to throw him back. His colours are amazing
On Saturday our time at Ningaloo sadly came to an end and we had to leave after 14 days.
We headed inland and stopped for a free night's camping at House Creek on the way to Tom Price, a large iron ore mining town. We leave here tomorrow to drive up Rio Tinto's Access Road to Millstream Chichester National Park, where we'll be for 3 nights. We had to sit a test at the Visitors Information Centre to get permission to drive on this Private Road. We should see lots of large things on it. Then we're back onto the coast again to drive towards Broome.
We went to the Tom Price pub for Sunday night dinner. We were the only ones there! I can tell you, they have a strange idea of what a "Salad Bar" is over here. Not a bit of salad on it but huge slabs of ham, crumbed prawn cutlets and crab sticks. Oh, there was a Caesar Salad, that was full of chicken, but you certainly wouldn't have eaten the lettuce under it. Dinner was surprisingly good though.
