Saturday 18th
February
We finally get away, around 11.30am, which was a bit later
than we expected. However we made it to Albert where the Rabbit Trap Hotel is
before 7pm.
According to the maps, Albert is supposed to have the
largest rabbit trap in Australia, but it doesn’t, it’s not finished yet. It was
supposed to be finished several years ago! However the Rabbit Trap Hotel is a
really great Aussie bush pub. The food is fantastic and cheap and the camping is
free.
When we pulled into Albert, population 11, the pub was
overflowing out onto the roadway! There was a buck’s party there, as well as
many locals. We ended up talking to local sheep farmers and several of those in
the buck’s party. They are always very friendly at the RTH and the publican
introduces himself to you on arrival.
It was a very loud night which finished sometime after 3am,
but we had retired well before that.
