Fowlers Bay to Nuriootpa (Barossa Valley)

While we were at Fowlers Bay we heard from Justin and Mel who were flying to Adelaide for Holly and Nathan's wedding in the Barossa Valley in 3 days time.  Mel checked with Holly to see if it would be okay for us to have a peek at the wedding ceremony, and after much consideration and studying of maps in detail, we decided that yes, we could make it if we left Fowlers Bay the next morning.  We really like Holly, and Mel was also going to be a bridesmaid.  It wouldn't be too hard to detour via The Barossa Valley - if we could get there in time.  We cut our stay in Fowlers Bay a day short, and to Ceduna the next day also cutting two days stay off there. Then doing a big drive to Nuriootpa via Murray Town.

The jetty at Ceduna

We decided to stay overnight in Murray Town as the local community have a camping area right in the town for $5/night unpowered or $11/night with power. The unpowered sites were perfect and we were the only ones there. There is water available to connect to the van, but as we had sufficient we didn't need to do this.

Camping at Murray Town

We arrived into the Barossa on Thursday lunch time, just when Justin and Mel got there. They dropped around to see us, but as they were booked up for dinner, Jayne and I went to the local pub.

It was really great to see Mel and Justin again, this was a real added bonus for us. Bailey was also excited when Justin walked up to the van. He had no idea what was going on! Naturally Mel also got a very excited greeting from him when she arrived a bit later after having her nails done.

The meals at the pub were huge but we ordered the wrong things and they weren't that good. If only we had ordered the steak!

We went to Maggie Beers Kitchen and wine tasting with Justin the next morning while Mel was doing the Bridesmaid thing getting ready with Holly. They started at 7am! We started at 10.30am, a much more gentleman's hour.

Morning tea at Maggie Beers Kitchen, yum!

Jayne's very capable of cooking a meal better than Maggie, so she took her place in Maggie's Kitchen.

Do you recognise this kitchen from her TV show The Cook and The Chef?

We only expected to go to the wedding service, but Holly and Nathan extended us an invitation to their reception afterwards, so this was an added and unexpected bonus. The wedding was perfect and was held at Chateau Tanunda, a grand old winery.

Mel was a beautiful and proud Bridesmaid.

The Happy Couple, Holly and Nathan

The next morning we headed off to the Tanunda Bakery for morning tea with Justin and Mel, where we also ran into other wedding goers and Holly and Nathan again. Justin and Mel then drove to Adelaide for their flight back to Sydney and we drove to Terowie.

Free camp at Terowie Railway siding

Terowie isn't exactly a bustling town. This is at 7pm Saturday night

Tomorrow we're off to Broken Hill. The car is way overdue for a service, and we have a broken windscreen that needs to be fixed. Broken Hill is a good place for repairs, just ask Lisa and Russ! We'll be there for a few days before heading further east, winding our way home.
